How This Started

HELP US SUPPORT THE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY

My partner Jane has Multiple Sclerosis, she cannot walk or even hold a cup of tea in her hand so besides working full time I am a full-time carer. It has been tough, but I always have to remember it is tougher for Jane and the 'Prosac' that has helped me to cope with everything is driving my beautiful 1954 Chevy Bel Air, my 1954 GMC Pick Up truck and going to a dance once a week to jive my legs off. I really don't know how I would have coped without the Rock 'n' Roll family and this is how the seed of an idea came about to launch this site.

I want to give someone the chance to experience the thrill of owning something really classic and unique and also to benefit the wonderful MS Society who have been so helpful, supportive to Jane and others like her who also suffer from this debilitating illness Multiple Sclerosis. So part of the proceeds of each prize draw will be going to the MS Society.

I will in the future be offering a classic car as a prize but not until covid is well and truly over, so in the meantime you might see a classic juke box as the prize or even a trip to Memphis. So keep following and you could be in with a chance to win an absolutely one-off prize and as they say, you have to be in it to win it!

This is the very first Rock-Ola to play 50 selections with both sides of the record being played and Rock-Ola’s first jukebox capable of playing 78’s and 45’s (not at the same time).

This jukebox was manufacture in 1950/51 in the US and probably used in the Jefferson City area and has the original US service card/operators card still in the jukebox. It’s never been used in the UK but has been thoroughly restored.

The sound is amazing and it has its original amplifier which is potent and powerful and the sound really punches out through its massive new 5 inch Jensen speaker, it does sound fantastic, you will be amazed at how good the 78’s sound.

The wooden case is excellent and very solid and the metal castor wheels have been replaced with new soft castor wheels fitted to ensure no damage to floors. It moves easily on a wooden floor or carpet.

The 45 rpm kit is included just in case you want to put it back on 45 rpm; there are some easy instructions on how to fit included but you will be more than impressed as it stands.

Number of selections is 50, so takes it takes 25 records and a new isolation step down transformer and three core mains wiring have been fitted; the old Jensen speaker has been replaced with a new Jensen speaker.

The remaining (two) valves are good and have been checked on a B&K valve tester plus any other components needing replacement have been completed including a new three core grounded mains cable for the amp new record cartridges and styli fitted for for 78’s.

Every item has been gone over, all the mechanism has been removed, stripped down, metal chassis re-finished as original with simulated wood grain finish and all parts cleaned. and any suspect switches and wiring replaced, with all motors have being checked over cleaned and lubricated. There are new turntable grommets, 78 and 45 rpm motor spindle sleeving adaptor and idler rubber. The cabinet sides have been refinished in line with its rocket theme; the metal parts polished and cabinet painted.

All the lighting has been checked and re-wired where necessary and a replacement rotating multi-coloured cylinder has been produced with new in line switch so you can either have the rotating colours or set a colour you like with the motor off and a new replacement picture valance fitted illuminated via the original top lighting tube.

There is a working coin mechanism that takes dimes and quarters but a small discrete free play button has been added so that there is no need for coins.

You will have a full set of thick card title cards (these will be blank) and a full set of good condition and popular 78’s from the artists listed. These are mostly rock and roll records from artists such as Buddy Holly, Elvis, The Everly Brothers, The Chordettes, Frank Sinatra, Lonnie Donegan etc etc but will provide a start if you have no 78’s and give you a taste of what this jukebox can do.

A service manual is included and all the locks are original and work and have the original the original Rock-Ola key.

This all might sound a little boring but I just wanted you to know that this juke box has been magnificently refurbished and so all you have to do is plug it in and listen.

When the draw is made the winner will be contacted within 48 hours and the juke box transported to anywhere in mainland UK free of charge. Please note that the juke box height is 58 7/8 x 25 5/8 wide x 27.5 deep and the weight is 362 lbs so this cannot be carried up a flight of steps in a tower block there must be an elevator and your door must be wide enough!
